I am 21 years old and I am diagnosed having polycystic ovaries. I have not got my period for 6 months now. I am putting on weight even if I am on diet. I have hair growth on my face and my skin has become oily. I have visited the gynecologist and I have done all the tests required. I have taken contraceptive pills for 3 months and I do not wish to continue that any more. I am quite worried about this problem. Do you think homeopathic medicines work for such problem? If yes, then how many months do I have to take medicines? Please advice
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine (hormonal) condition and may affect up to 10 to 12 % of women of reproductive age. The disorder, which is a leading cause of infertility, is also known as polycystic ovaries, Sclerocystic Ovarian Disease and Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD).
The symptoms of PCOS can vary widely from woman to woman. In addition to infertility, the symptoms include:
- irregular or completely absent periods,
- ovarian cysts,
- hirsutism (excessive facial or body hair),
- Alopecia (male pattern hair loss), obesity, acne, skin tags,
- brown skin patches,
- high cholesterol levels,
- exhaustion or lack of mental alertness,
- decreased sex drive and excess male hormones.
PCOS is caused by the hormonal imbalance in the body. It can be genetic or can be due to the modern life style. Homeopathic remedies can help regularize the hormonal imbalance. It is a long treatment which differs from person to person and mean while you have to visit the gynecologist and follow her advice also. At the same time, you have to reduce the weight by doing exercise and eating healthy diet which is free from carbohydrates and fat. Oral contraceptives do not cure PCOS.
Homeopathy is a natural approach to medicine, a holistic therapy that takes the entire patient into account. Homeopaths believe that "like cures like" -- in other words, when diluted to microscopically tiny levels in water, small quantities of substances that in bigger doses would cause symptoms can now cure them. Some homeopathic medicines are known as wonder drugs for women and are given by taking the history of the patient. Constitutional medicines can help you regularize your hormones and regularize the menstrual cycle also. These are:
Pulsatilla, Sepia, Natrum Muraticum, kalium bromate.
